The ICHTHUS projecT™ is a unique evangelical outreach effort with the primary objective to encourage Christians to share the Gospel in a way which is very non-threatening to both themselves and the recipients.
The ichthus is a stylized symbol of a fish. This was used by early Christians to identify themselves. It has become popular more recently for Christians to put on the back of their cars as an outward statement of faith.
The fish was an early symbol of Christianity, since the Greek word for fish, ichthus, is an acronym (the first letter of each word) for the Greek phrase Iesous Christos Theou Huios Soter, which means "Jesus Christ, of God the Son, Savior." It was written as graffiti and was used as a secret password when Christians were being persecuted by the Romans. The version used here contains the Greek symbols themselves inside.

We have prepared a business-envelope-sized packet of information, called The Ichthus Packet, which a Christian places on the windshields of automobiles displaying the popular ichthus (fish) symbol. The theory is that those displaying the symbol are making a statement to the world that they are Christians. Thus, they should be receptive to the material in the packet.
The Ichthus Packet contains:
- a cover letter explaining the project, the packet contents, and why they received the packet
- three seeker-sensitive, easy-to-give, items for sharing the Gospel with friends (which includes a free gift for each seeker who visits the www.fishproject.org web site)
- a numbered ichthus luggage tag, including: ichthus symbol, text of the Great Commission, and telephone/web information for the project which can be used to reunite lost luggage with its owner (provided the owner registers their contact information with our database)
- an additional free gift for the packet recipient, currently a bookmark
- information on how to order additional packets, luggage tags, and other project material
- minimal, understated advertising information from corporate sponsors

The hope is that many recipients of the packet will do two things:
- share the Gospel with at least three friends by using the enclosed items
- visit this web site to obtain additional packets for them to place on other Christian automobiles
They may also:

- purchase additional luggage tags
- purchase additional items for sharing the Gospel
- learn about other web sites offering Christian fellowship and information
- learn more about our sponsors
- make additional donations to support the project

Currently, the gift that comes with each "Dear Friend" letter is a quality plastic bookmark with the poem "Take Time." Each packet also includes a similar bookmark for the Christian recipient, with the poem "I Asked God." Each bookmark has a label on the back with project contact information. Additional quantities of these bookmarks may be purchased here.
Earlier versions of the packets contained nicely laminated, wallet cards with contact information on one side and the following on the other side:

Yes. Our director and his wife have twin girls whom they regard as miracle babies. They were very appreciative of the "multiples" programs of various companies. Also, their minivan sports two large and two small ichthus symbols to represent the parents and two children. They hope that other parents of multiples would be encouraged to similarly make a statement of faith and dedication of their children. If you are the parent(s) of multiple-birth children, please send us copies of their birth certificates anytime before their first birthday, and The ICHTHUS projecT™ will send you two large ichthus symbols for your car along with one small one for each birth certificate received. Your information will be kept in accordance with our privacy policy.
